The silent patient

The book we would we reviewing today is, 'The silent patient' penned by Alex Michaelides.

Alex Michaelides is a British-Cypriot author and screenwriter. This book is his debut novel and a New York Times bestseller.

The plot unfolds to the readers in two points of views. The first one is Alicia Berenson(the silent patient); the second is of her therapist, Theo Faber.

Alicia Berenson shoots her husband five times and goes silent ever since. Thoe is determined to make her speak to uncover the murder mystery. It is a perfect psychological thriller for anyone who is into crime and murder mysteries.

"Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later, in uglier ways. " is a quote from the book which explains to us that if we bottle up our feeling for a very long time, there shall come a time when the bottle breaks and the feeling that got suppressed get expressed in ugly ways.

“There’s so much pain everywhere, and we just close our eyes to it. The truth is we’re all scared. We’re terrified of each other.” is a quote from the book that reveals to us that most of us turn a blind eye to the pain others face instead of helping them. We are quite scared that we might get hurt trying to help or that we might hurt someone.

“Once you name something, it stops you seeing the whole of it, or why it matters.” is a citation from the novel that expresses the human nature where we take things for granted or lose interest once we declare it as ours or that we fully know them. We no longer care about them like we did when they were unknown to us when we had to explore the unexplored.

"One of the hardest things to admit is that we weren't loved when we needed it most. It's a terrible feeling, the pain of not being loved.” is a quotation from the book that reveals what we truly desire at our core. Isn't it the feeling of being loved that makes us do all we do? Be it getting good grades to impress our parents or wearing pretty clothes to please the people around us, all of it is to feel loved and wanted.

“A baby cannot hate the mother, without the mother first hating the baby.” is an extract from the novel which shows us that we are not capable of hating someone unless they hate us first.

This book is a perfect read is you are a thrill seeker or psychological crime fan. It is full of twists and suspense that would leave us guessing till the end.
