The book we shall be reviewing today is 'Lovely War' penned by Julie Berry. It is a historical fiction set in the time of world war I. It also includes a little Greek mythology in it.
Julie Berry is a children's and YA whose other works include, 'All the truth that's in me', 'The passion of Dolssa', 'The Amaranth Enchantment'.
Lovely war is a story of two couples 'Hazel and James', and 'Aubrey and Colette'. Their stories are narrated by the Greek Goddess of love, Aphrodite. It is a sweeping tale of love, loss, friendship and war.
'How did one nation produce both humble souls and killers?' is an extract from the book, which describes to us that there are both kind and criminal people in a country. Never judge a country by observing just one person.
'I envy the mortals. It's because they're weak and damaged that they can love,' is an extract from that book that describes that we humans can love because we are not perfect. We lack things that we search for in our soul mates, broken and damaged souls seeking comfort in one another.
'Joy can do that. It can hurt as much as pain,' is a quote from the book which tells us that our happy moments will turn to be extremely painful when we lose the person we shared them with.
'Smart means when to talk and when to shut up. Even if you are right,' is a quote from the books which explains that a smart person knows to use the right words at the right moment and when to keep quiet. Arguing with a foolish person will only waste your time and energy.
'If you love something, you must set it free,' is a quote from the book, as well as an old saying that when you love something, you must let it free, and it will come back to you if it is truly yours.
If you like reading historical fiction or stories of war or Greek mythology or friendship or love, this book is for you.
