The story follows Zachary Ezra Rawlins, a graduate student who discovers a book with no name. As he reads the book, he gets obsessed with it after finding a story from his childhood in the book. The book also includes a lot of other breath-taking stories about a place called the starless sea. It is a tale that will absorb you and make you forget your surroundings.

'A boy at the beginning of the story has no way of knowing that the story has begun' is an extract from the book which describes to us that we possibly cannot have any idea that our story has already begun when it is just getting started.

'Everyone is a part of a story, what they want is to be a part of something worth recording' is an extract from the book that says that every one of us has our own stories and knowingly or, unknowingly all are a part of somebody else's story too. But what we truly desire is to be a part of a story that is worth telling.

'Important things hurt sometimes' is a quote from the book that illustrates to us that unless we feel that something is precious to us, we do not care about it as much and only when we do care a lot that it does hurt.

'To find a key, you must understand the lock.' is a quote from the book that explains to us that if only you understand a problem can you find a solution to it.

'Whatever happens, will happen whether I worry about it or not' is an extract from the book that illustrates that what is meant to be will happen no matter we worry about it or not, so why should we get ourselves worked up about it?

'There are so many pieces to a person. So many small stories and so few opportunities to read them' is an extract from the book that tells us that each person we come across every day of our life has many stories to tell, but we do not have enough chances to know a person completely.

'Don't waste your time on anyone who does not believe you when you tell them how you feel.' is an extract from the book that tells us that no matter how much we try to explain some people will never understand or even listen to us, so we should not waste our time and energy on such people.

The starless sea is a beautifully written book with many twists and turns and is worth reading if you like reading about friendship, love, sacrifice, bibliophile or a fan of the night circus.
